The rioters are not targeting people. They are going after buildings and businesses. The only people they might attack are the police officers trying to control them. Normal citizens have nothing to fear as long as they aren’t being stupid and shouting insults at the already fired-up mobs.

So many people are completely missing the point of these riots.

They may not be TARGETING people, but when they are lighting things on fire, people can get hurt. People’s businesses and livelihoods are being DESTROYED by a bunch of thugs. As a result, “normal citizens” may not have jobs to go to, or homes to live in as a result of this destruction. Think about that.
