Random musings
So I’ve seen that post about being scared of getting old and it just makes me think. When I think about getting older there is a lot that I’m actually quite looking forward to. I just think about my sister, my mom and my grandma and how they are just so comfortable with themselves now. I mean, my grandma just says whatever she wants and she could care less about what other people think. And none of them care if their friends think they’re “cool”. Their past all that. I think that’s pretty great.
Yes. As someone who is old enough to be the mother of a lot of people around here (45), this is true. There are certain aspects of getting older that I don’t love, and don’t look forward to (like never being able to retire because I have no money.) But I really do give much less of a fuck about other people’s opinions than I did when I was 20. And my filter is rapidly dying, which means I might actually tell you what I think of you before I can censor myself. (This is sometimes good and sometimes bad.) I don’t take much shit from people like I used to because I don’t want to ruffle feathers. If I’m pissed off about something you will probably hear about it. Not that I never have self-doubts or wonder what the fuck I’m doing with my life, but on the whole I am much happier in my own skin than I was 20 years ago. So don’t be too afraid.
